Debbie Siniska
Textile artist
I am a rag rug maker, felt maker, artist, teacher and author. My work is inspired by the natural world, and the green man, hares, birds and plant life are subjects I return to time and again. I work instinctively, - my pieces often come to life as I work - rather than planning each detail beforehand.
My work has been exhibited in the V&A Museum in London, I appeared on channel 4 TV with Kirstie Allsopp with my work, on her Homemade Home series 2. I was commissioned by the Tate Gallery in London to create eight Bloomsbury style rugs for an exhibition of Bloomsbury art celebrating the millennium, and also by The Charleston Trust, who commissioned a reproduction of an old Bloomsbury style rug, that now lies in Maynard Keynes bedroom at Charleston, home of the literary & art group of the 1920's, that is open to the public. My book Rag Rugs Old into New was published in 2010.
I teach in adult residential colleges in the South East, and deliver my 'Eco Art' sessions in primary schools, a fun thing I currently do twice a week, and in school holidays. I also run my own monthly textile workshops in Mayfield, and Lewes, E.Sussex (workshop details on my website). I am a member of the Heritage Crafts Association, and the Sussex Arts Collective.
